The Lobster Pot in Ramsgate is an Iconic 1967 Seafood Landmark.

Stepping into The Lobster Pot feels like unlocking a storied piece of South Coast history. Established in 1967, this coastal destination has anchored Ramsgate’s dining scene for decades, balancing approachable coastal dining with a refined focus on exceptional seafood. Run on site by owners Linda and Bruce Forbes, the venue carries a warm, deeply personal nostalgia, the kind of place locals grew up around and seasoned travellers return to every season.

The dining space strikes a thoughtful balance between relaxed coastal charm and theatrical, hands-on dining. Outside, they have a dedicated garden and terrace that offers a comfortable space to linger. The real centrepiece of our visit, however, was experiencing their signature Seafood Boil for two, an interactive feast brought straight to the table. Before the dish arrives, staff tie large, classic bibs on you, setting the stage for a dining ritual meant to get delightfully messy.

The Unveiling of the Seafood Boil

Our meal opened with the cheesy garlic prawn starter, served hot in a mussel tray with a rich, velvety garlic sauce alongside warm brown bread for dipping, followed by a toasted cheesy garlic roll. When the main event arrived, the server opened the steaming boil bag directly at our table, releasing a rich wave of aromatic steam. Based on an authentic American recipe perfected with over 16 herbs and spices, the boil combines savoury sausage, sweet corn, plump mussels, prawns, calamari, and tender potatoes. We customised ours by adding crayfish and extra queen prawns, taking the dish to another level.

Flavours and Sweet Finishes

What impressed us most was how distinctly each ingredient stood out. Doused in fresh lemon, white wine, garlic, butter, and parsley, every element maintained its own bold flavour profile rather than blending together, bound by a deeply savoury broth that held everything together.

We finished the evening with their house-made baked chocolate cake, served warm with cream, delightfully moist, and rich without feeling heavy.

Guided by Linda and Bruce’s attentive hospitality, the entire experience proved why this classic spot remains an essential stop on the coastline.

We would like to say a special thank you to The Lobster Pot and their entire amazing team for an unforgettable, incredible experience.
