A Personal Journey of Unfiltered Luxury inside Sibani Lodge’s Private Villa Experience.
There are luxury safari escapes, and then there is Sibani Lodge, a sanctuary where decision-making simply ceases to exist.
Our retreat began above the clouds, hovering over the rolling savanna in our private helicopter charter from Helivate before descending onto the helipad at Sibani Lodge. The rotor blades had barely slowed when a tray of crystal flutes appeared. Chilled champagne crowned with oversized, sun-ripened strawberries.
From that very first breath of fresh bushveld air, the frantic pace of the world outside dissolved completely, and everything felt considered, calm, and quietly extraordinary.

We were met by George, our private butler, whose natural warmth and quiet intuition immediately set the tone for our stay. Calling us "my queen" and "my king" with genuine hospitality, he gestured toward our home for the next few days. A masterfully designed horseshoe-shaped villa that balances architectural grandeur with absolute privacy.
To one side, the master wing houses an expansive suite framed by a massive stone fireplace, leading into private lounging nooks, a fully appointed bar, and a grand living room designed for absolute comfort. Behind the main dining area lies a discreet service kitchen, where our private chef, Jaco, spent the stay quietly crafting our bespoke culinary journey.

The outdoor spaces are just as impressive. The veranda stretches the length of the villa, overlooking the bushveld and a watering hole where zebras, kudus, ostriches, and a variety of game animals come and go throughout the day.
Inside the horseshoe lies a private courtyard with a fire boma, multiple braai areas, a pizza oven, and an enormous outdoor bath carved from a single piece of solid stone. A fire-heated hot tub, warmed by a coil system rather than electricity, offers the most private of soaks with uninterrupted views of the bush.

Settling into the rhythm of the villa requires zero effort. Chef Jaco introduced himself to outline the culinary journey that awaited us.
We began with a generous and opulent charcuterie board layered with crispy chicken wings, tender riblets, artisanal dry wors, marinated olives, and more.

George appeared the moment we mentioned a drink, whether local beer, excellent Jan Harmsgat wines, or something stronger. Later, the spa team arrived for our in-villa Swedish massages. Professional, attentive, and perfectly paced, the hour-and-a-half treatments left us deeply relaxed.
The soft music, combined with the distant sizzle and subtle aromas from Chef Jaco’s kitchen, created a welcome sensory atmosphere that no closed-door spa could ever match.

Lunch was Sibani’s renowned double-patty burger with cowboy butter melting inside the meat, a rich barbecue basting, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese on a toasted bun, served with golden fries and a selection of Jaco’s house-made sauces.
The habanero-mango-pineapple, tequila Texas barbecue, and jalapeño sauces were exceptional, though the burger needed nothing extra. George paired the richness of the dish perfectly with a crisp, beautifully chilled Jan Harmsgat Sauvignon Blanc.

We spent the afternoon in the fire-heated hot tub as George arrived with a bottle of Jan Harmsgat Chardonnay on ice, the bushveld stretching out before us. Later, after a quick shower in the luxurious en-suite with its twin rainfall heads, we gathered in the courtyard boma for a true South African braai.

Judd chose a beautifully seasoned T-bone steak cooked medium-rare and a juicy zebra boerewors filled with jalapeño and cheese, alongside a classic braaibroodjie. Masterfully prepared for us by Chef Jaco over open coals while we relaxed next to the roaring fire.

Claudia opted for a tender ostrich steak that carried no gaminess at all, a crisp Greek salad, fresh fruit salad, and sweet corn brushed with cowboy butter. Quite simply the best corn either of us has ever tasted. Dessert was a warm chocolate lava pudding with a soft centre, served with silky custard and paired with a smooth Jan Harmsgat Merlot.
While Chef Jaco was preparing our meal, we enjoyed switching off by the fire boma while listening to wild jackals calling out to each other. It created an atmosphere of being truly removed from the city while still living in the lap of pure luxury.

While we dined, George quietly prepared the bedroom fireplace. We returned to find a roaring fire already casting warm light and soft sound across the room. The entire villa is designed for indoor-outdoor living, with floor-to-ceiling zip-up canvas curtains every few metres that open fully onto the bushveld.

Waking up the following morning wrapped in crisp linens and plush feather duvets, the bushveld was just beginning to stir.

We were driven the short distance to the main lodge for breakfast overlooking the infinity pool. Freshly baked continental pastries, artisan espresso, cooked-to-order country breakfasts, and plant-based milks were served with that same effortless grace we had come to appreciate as Sibani’s hallmark.

A private game drive followed, lasting about an hour and a half across the 55-hectare property.

We encountered warthogs, various bucks, ostriches, wildebeest, and more, while our guide shared insights into the fauna, flora, and the land itself.

We passed a watering hole and the jackal den of the pack we had heard howling the previous evening. The silence of the property is complete, no traffic, no noise, only the open savanna and the raw acoustics of the African bush, embodying a truly unique and luxurious African experience.

We spent a final quiet hour on the day beds overlooking the opulence of the lodge before Rory from Helivate returned to collect us. From arrival to departure, every detail at Sibani Lodge felt bespoke, intuitive, beautifully executed and deeply luxurious.

Our sincere appreciation goes to George, Chef Jaco, and the entire team for crafting a private villa experience that sets a benchmark for South African hospitality and transported us to another world entirely.

We look forward to returning and raising our glasses with you again soon! 🙌
