Our South Coast Tradition at Breakers Restaurant in Uvongo.
Every trip we take to the South Coast comes with a few non-negotiable stops, but Breakers Restaurant holds a deeply personal space in our hearts. Returning here year after year has evolved from a simple dinner choice into an annual tradition, a quiet anchor where we slow down, celebrate life, honor memory, and reset. Positioned along Marine Drive, it is the kind of coastal spot that welcomes us back every single season with the comforting familiarity of a second home.

A Tropical Sanctuary in Uvongo
Stepping onto the property always feels like unlocking a hidden retreat. The layout flows effortlessly from crisp, white-cloth indoor tables to a sleek bar, opening up onto a sweeping wrap-around balcony enveloped in lush greenery. Sitting outside on the terrace under the natural canopy, we instantly felt the coastal rhythm take over. The whole venue carries a genuine warmth, shaped entirely by owner Simon and his wife Tammy, whose personal touch on the floor and in the kitchen makes you feel like an invited guest rather than just a customer.

Starters, Craft Beers, and Bold Flavours
We settled into our outdoor table and toasted to our return with cold, local craft beers from their weekly special board. To start, I had the tempura prawns—five hot, crispy battered prawns drizzled with sushi mayo and sweet chilli sauce on a bed of greens, giving every bite a light, satisfying crunch. Judd chose the fillet steak Trinchado, featuring tender beef fillet, peppers, and onions in a rich, white-wine cream sauce rather than a traditional red base, served with a freshly baked bun that was made for dipping.

Mains Built on Scratch-Cooked Comfort
For our mains, I went with the chicken stack, and it completely blew me away. It came packed with grilled, basted chicken breasts, char-grilled bacon, roasted pineapple, avocado, and soft Danish feta, all seasoned with cracked lemon pepper and sweet chilli sauce.

Judd ordered the combo platter, a 200g rump steak cooked to order, four queen prawns, a side of real butter mash, and a mound of Cajun-dusted calamari that stole the show with its golden crunch. We paired everything with their signature Breakers cocktail, a delicious mix of Spiced Gold and Appletiser.

The Sweet Finish That Keeps Us Coming Back
No visit of ours is ever complete without dessert, especially since Tammy bakes them herself. We asked the manager, Machta, for her recommendation, and we ended up ordering Tammy’s house-made Malva pudding. It arrived as a total luxury, baked to a caramelised outer crust with a soft, sponge centre, served as a trio alongside custard, ice cream, and fresh cream. It is easily the best Malva pudding we have ever had. It’s this exact combination of heart, incredible food, and personal hospitality that keeps us coming back every year.

We would like to say a special thank you to Breakers Restaurant and their entire amazing team for an unforgettable, incredible experience. We look forward to visiting many more times and raising our glasses with you again soon! 🙌
