A Feast at MyFish: The Best Mediterranean Seafood in Johannesburg.
Mediterranean Soul, Jozi Heart.
We’ve learned that the best spots in most cities aren't always the ones with the velvet ropes or the complicated reservation systems. Sometimes, the real magic is tucked away in a place that feels like home, smells like a Portuguese seaside kitchen, and treats you like family the second you walk through the door. That place is MyFish. It’s more than a meal, it’s an experience you didn't know you needed.

Walking into MyFish feels a bit like you’ve been let in on a massive secret. The front is a beautifully curated grocery store packed with treasures. Spanish olive oils, Italian pasta, and spices that make you want to cancel your plans and start cooking immediately.

They’ve got a deli section that will test your willpower and a fishery that is, quite frankly, the freshest you’ll find in the city. And here is the kicker, if you don’t feel like ordering off the menu, you can literally point to a fresh catch from the fishery, and they’ll prep it exactly how you want it.
It’s honest, it’s fresh, and it’s brilliant.

But let’s talk about the food, because we’re still dreaming about it. We kicked things off with three rissoles, two chicken and one prawn each fried to that perfect, golden crispy-on-the-outside, molten-on-the-inside finish.
Then came the "Hands on Deck" platter, and if you’re a seafood lover, this is your pilgrimage. The Hake flaked perfectly, the calamari had zero chewiness (a rarity!), and the Prego steak was done the authentic, messy, "if you know, you know" way. We swapped our chips for salad, but the Milho Frito (fried pap) was the real winner, incredibly crispy, fluffy, and absolute comfort food.

Another star of the show? That large peri-peri Portuguese chicken. It was succulent, fell right off the bone, and had the perfect kick.

We rounded it all off with a 1920 cognac, a freshly drawn Nicola espresso, and a few ice-cold SuperBock beers. And Nono? Our waitress was an absolute legend. She wasn't just serving us. She was hosting us, turning a lunch into one of those afternoons you don’t want to end.

Look, we always keep it real with you. MyFish isn’t trying to be "fine dining." It’s relaxed, it’s casual, and it’s completely unpretentious. But the flavors they’re plating? They’d give the most expensive spots in town a serious run for their money.
If you’re looking for a slice of the Mediterranean right here in Johannesburg, this is your spot.

We would like to say a special thank you to Paulo for hosting us! Nono was fabulous and their entire team amazing, which all resulted in us having an unforgettable experience.
We look forward to visiting many more times and raising our glasses with you again soon! 🙌
